Mary Carlson

Mary Carlson, a dual British/American citizen, has worked in the music and performing arts field for over 30 years.

Mary spent the early part of her career in management positions at the New York Philharmonic, Radio City Music Hall and New World Records. After moving to London, she was engaged as a management consultant before focusing on marketing and public relations. As a PR consultant, Ms. Carlson worked with the world’s leading orchestras including The Cleveland Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, London Sinfonietta, Ulster Orchestra, Südwestfunk Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In 2000 Mary Carlson founded Arts Executive Search in response to industry demand for professional leadership in the performing arts sector for both commercial and nonprofit organisations.

From 2010-2013 Ms. Carlson managed an Intern Abroad Programme for New York University/Steinhardt School graduate students in arts administration.

Mary Carlson holds a B.Mus from Manhattanville College, an M.Mus from Northwestern University and an M.Sc from Columbia University, Graduate School of Business.

SARAH WEDL-WILSON, Senior Advisor, was born in London in 1969 into a family of musicians. She studied violin from an early age and became an accomplished musician, leading youth orchestras and forming an award-winning string quartet. She studied languages at Emmanuel College, Cambridge and then chose a career in arts management, working for IMG in London. Her language skills took her to Salzburg to Sándor Végh’s Camerata Academica and from there to the Cologne Philharmonie. She was artistic director of Schloss Elmau before moving to Innsbruck to head the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music for ten years and developing it into an international brand. In 2012 Ms. Wedl-Wilson moved back to Salzburg and became Vice-Chancellor and subsequently interim Chancellor of the renowned Mozarteum University. She was appointed Chairman of the Salzburg Easter Festival in 2015, a position she holds to date. In 2018, Ms. Wedl-Wilson led the search committee of the Easter Festival in the recruitment of the next Managing Director, Nikolaus Bachler, who will take up the post in 2020.

Sarah Wedl-Wilson lectures in arts management and music education. She is fluent in English, French and German and proficient in Italian.
